This project investigates the spatial and demographic impacts of tourism in the Salzburg Land region, with a specific focus on the year 2024 for tourism data. An SDI-based approach was used to aggregate municipalities into standardized tourism regions and to enrich them with demographic, labour market, housing, and tourism-related indicators. The project integrates geospatial boundary data, official statistics, and tourism performance data into a standardized dataset covering three spatial levels: municipalities (GEM), tourism regions (TR), and tourism districts (TB). The processed data is visualized through an interactive web-based dashboard to support regional comparison and exploration of tourism-related pressure. By combining tourism, demographic, and labour market information in a single SDI framework, the project contributes to improved transparency and accessibility of tourism-related spatial information for regional analysis and planning purposes.

The project is an interactive ArcGIS Dashboard to visualize Austria’s birth rate trends (total births) across Austria’s 94 political districts from 1970 to 2024, highlighting spatial and temporal patterns within a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) framework. Data was sourced from Statistik Austria, and the dataset provides district-level birth counts, enabling analysis of demographic trends. The dashboard features choropleth maps, time sliders, district filters, and charts to explore historical trends, regional variations, and projected impacts. Data is cleaned using R, stored in PostGIS database, and shared via standardized OGC services (WMS, WFS). The project supports policymakers in planning education and workforce resources by providing insights into Austria’s demographic evolution, with urban/rural comparison integrated through district-level analysis.
